April/May 2009 Update:
Most of this month business has seemed like swimming in molasses. There is obvious reluctance to spend across a broad range of business markets. We have found that we are still fielding the usual number of enquiries but there are more than usual in the "undecided at this stage" and "not doing anything" categories. Apparently studies have shown that firms that increase their marketing spend in tough times perform better than those that do not. It is very easy for people to forget about you if you are not front of mind.
"The Greatest Free Gift Ever": I have been talking with a marketing consultant, Richard Petrie, over recent months and we have decided to pursue a relatively novel marketing strategy. Southern Monograms wishes to encourage people who seek quotations from us to 'take the plunge' it would be great if we could make the decision to accept our quotes a little sweeter than usual by offering them "The Greatest Free Gift Ever". We deal with a broad cross section of businesses across Canterbury, New Zealand and The Pacific. A great many of these organisations are finding things tough and should readily grasp the opportunity to take on extra business. Consider how much your business would be willing to give-away in order to provide a free or discounted sample of your product or service? It might be a free initial consultation, a free coffee when a main meal is purchased, a discounted item when two others are purchased etc? Southern Monograms would bundle all of the offers together and call this "The Greatest Free Gift Ever" offering it to clients on the acceptance of relevant quotations. Not all of the offers will be attractive to everyone but the expectation is that there will be enough within it to swing the deal in our favour. The cost to your organisation would only be what you are prepared to give-away. Obviously you can state what restrictions apply to your offer.
