Nice work!” Todd Haglund “In a recent art work "God bless Aotearoa and all its beautiful people" done for a solo exhibition at the BartleyNees Gallery in Wellington I approached Southern Monograms to help me formalise a concept that I had. I have worked with Southern Monograms in the past on other projects but none at this scale or volume. For this most recent work I required 100 badges that were arranged formally to spell out "kia ora bro". The work spanned a total of 5.6 meters. These badges were 115mm in diameter and done in a wide range of colours, being so comfortable with the skill level of the staff I left the decision of colour combinations with them, and with the added pressure of needing each of them to be unique, they were then embroidered with a map outline of Aotearoa. Since having the first badge made only four weeks ago we are now up to a total of 300 badges with at least a further 200 yet to go. The work was extremely well received in Wellington and looked great on the gallery wall. Some of these "patches" have found new homes as far away as Mexico, New York and the UK. I have always found Southern Monograms easy to deal with and professional - at times my deadlines are testing and they have always come through for me.
